Was ich an meiner Arbeit als Fotografin liebe: wenn Modelle, die sich selbst eigentlich nicht sonderlich gut auf Bildern leiden können, oder die vor dem Termin so aufgeregt waren, dass sie die ganze Nacht nicht schlafen konnten und sich dementsprechend wenig präsentabel fühlen, ganz überrascht sind - nämlich davon, dass sie sich auf den Fotos ganz toll finden und es ihnen Freude macht, bei mir vor der Kamera zu stehen.

Diese Erlebnisse zeigen dass es gar nicht darum geht, schöner oder besser werden zu müssen, als wir sind. Sondern dass es darum geht, das, was bereits da ist bewusst wahrzunehmen und es sichtbar zu machen. Das hat nichts mit Oberflächlichkeit zu tun. Das ist Wertschätzung.
Wenn du dir auf Bildern, die du von einem Profi hast machen lassen, nicht gefällst, dann liegt es in Wahrheit nicht daran, dass du dich erstmal hättest "in Form bringen" sollen, oder dich umstylen, oder sonst irgendwie anders sein als du bist - offensichtlich braucht es nicht einmal genügend Schlaf! Und nein, jetzt will ich nicht darauf hinaus, dass man das ja alles mit Nachbearbeitung hintricksen kann. (Ich mache z. B. gar keine - von echten kosmetischen Notfällen natürlich abgesehen.) Das Geheimnis ausdrucksstarker Bilder liegt nicht notwendigerweise in der Kameraerfahrung des Modells und auch nicht unbedingt in der technischen Ausrüstung. Es liegt im aufmerksamen und liebevollen Auge hinter der Linse. Und in der Magie der Begegnung zwischen FotografIn und Modell.

Brauchst du Porträts von dir für dein Business, bist aber kein Model? Und fühlt sich die Aussicht auf einen Termin mit einer Fotografin ungefähr so gut an wie ein Zahnarztbesuch? .
Dann solltest du nicht zu einem „Technik-Profi“ gehen. Sondern zu jemandem, der/die Profi darin ist, Menschen wie dich dahin zu führen, sich vor der Kamera zu entspannen. .⠀
Ich arbeite vor allem mit Menschen, die von Beruf keine Models sind (ja, auch die, auf den Bildern, die aussehen als wären sie welche). .
Und, nein, ich kann nicht jede/n dazu bringen, sich bei mir vor der Kamera zu öffnen. Das hat nämlich auch etwas mit persönlicher Chemie zu tun.

Darum kann man mich auch nicht einfach so buchen. Es braucht ein Vorgespräch, bei dem wir gemeinsam schauen, ob es passt.

Where we agree that the background, the outfit, the hair, etc. don’t need to be "right". It’s that being ok with everything as is that creates pictures that are truly expressive.⠀

How do you find the right photographer for your bu

How do you find the right photographer for your business portraits? Here are the three most important things to consider, especially if you are not used to being in front of a camera.⠀
⠀
1. V I S U A L L A N G U A G E⠀
Check out different photographers‘ styles. What appeals to you personally? What style represents your business best? Are you part of an industry that has a predefined way of communicating with its clients? Do you need to stay within that set framework so that you come across as a professional? Or is your business part of a culture where you are allowed (or maybe even expected) to be more personal, more creative? Do you need a photographer that can help you create a unique visual language?⠀
⠀
2. H A P P Y F A C E S?⠀
A photographer‘s style and technical skills are one thing. However, if authenticity is of any importance in your niche, I recommend you pay attention to one detail in particular: take a close look at the expression of the people in the pictures. A picture may look great at first because it looks professional, maybe the colors are great, and the composition is perfect. And that may well be enough on the surface. But if your business is based on you, if your personal energy is part of what speaks to people, you cannot afford portraits where you don’t look relaxed and, well happy. Which brings us to⠀
⠀
3. C A M E R A S H Y?⠀
Are you used to being in front of a camera? Or are you maybe even camera shy? Is this the part of your business that you know is necessary but you’d rather skip it if you could? Do you already know how you want to present yourself in the pictures or do you need help figuring out what works for you? Do you basically just need someone with the technical equipment who knows how to push the button? Or do you need someone who takes you through the whole process - from getting over your discomfort, to choosing the location, helping you with your outfit, and selecting which picture to use where? ⠀
⠀
Depending on your answers, very different types of photographers could be a great match - or a disappointment. So know what you want/need and talk to several photographers whose style you like to see if they get you.

I remember how we were joking about how this picture turned out almost a little too much like a cliché of the home office entrepreneur with the stylish location, cappuccino and the MacBook (of course it’s a Macbook!). •
The thing is though (and that is what makes the picture work AND what makes the whole thing even funnier imho): Nohila Driever is as far from a cliché as you can get. She’s the real deal. Anyone who has ever worked with this lady, back me up here in the comment section!

When you’re for real, you can pull off stuff that could come off cheesy if you were pretending. •
That’s why I don’t believe in getting hung up on technical rules when it comes to my photography (or life in general). •
I am here for those of you who want to come across with authenticity. To me that does not mean "no make-up" (or no whatever). If a lot of make-up is your thing, and you’re having fun with it - go for it even on photo day. If you are rocking the home office thing, staging you on a green lawn would technically be "in nature" - but it would not be natural.

So, the only rule I have is: let’s do your thing. For real.
